1 dead, 1 injured in Martinez apartment fire

MARTINEZ, Calif. - One person died and another was hospitalized Wednesday after an apartment fire in Martinez. 

Contra Costa County firefighters responded to the fire on Foster Street about 3 a.m. and stopped the fire from spreading through the unit.

They said they rescued one victim, from a second-story window.

Battalion chief Paul Silva said they are still investigating the cause of the fire started, but they think it may have started in the kitchen.
