6 landlords accused of price gouging after North Bay fires
The Tubbs Fire was started by power equipment on private property, not PG&E's equipment.
SONOMA COUNTY, Calif. (KTVU) - Six landlords in Sonoma County are accused of raising the rent on residents after the North Bay fires.
The Sonoma County District Attorney's office has filed three misdemeanor price gouging complaints.
In one case, the landlords held a bidding war on their Santa Rosa property- with the starting at $3500 a month in rent.
The winning bid was $10,000 a month.
It is illegal to raise the price of items and services more than 10% for 30 days after an emergency declaration in California. However, Governor Jerry Brown extended that to April 18, 2018.
Two of the cases will be heard in court on Tuesday. The other is set for early January.
