Amber Alert for 6-year-old East Bay girl cancelled, girl found safe

6-year-old allegedly taken by her mother who does not have custody of her.

An amber alert that was issued early Tuesday morning in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties has been cancelled.

The Amber Alert had been issued for a young girl, who was allegedly abducted by her mother, who does not have custody of her.

Six-year-old Malayia Davis-Booker was taken by Laquita Davis, 34, in San Leandro on Monday, said authorities. On Tuesday, authorities said Malayia was found safe in San Leandro and her mother was arrested.

Authorities had described the mother, as a homeless woman with "diminished capacity," who has a history of parental abductions.

Malayia's father has custody of her.

On July 14, Davis took Malayia who was with her grandparents at the time in Berkeley, police said.

Berkeley Police also said that Davis had taken Malayia before, but did not harm her.
