Police are still searching for a man they say fatally attacked a transient man at a San Leandro BART station early Saturday.

Police say the unidentified suspect punched 47-year-old Don Stevens in the side of the head with a closed fist on the platform of the Bay Fair station about 1:20 a.m. Saturday. Police say Stevens fell to the ground and hit his head on the cement platform.

Officers gave Stevens CPR until paramedics arrived and transported the victim to a hospital, where he was declared brain dead.

Although BART officers could not find any witnesses who saw the attack, surveillance video from the train and the station showed the deadly assault, police said.

BART released pictures of the suspect, who is described a an African-American man who stands 5 foot 8 to 5 foot 10 with a medium build and a dark complexion.

Police say he has shoulder length dreadlocks held back in a ponytail and a scruffy beard. The suspect was wearing a white T-shirt and a green jacket at the time of the attack.

Anyone with information about the suspect should call the BART Police Department at 510-464-7011.
