Firefighter hospitalized, two houses destroyed in Pleasant Hill blaze

PLEASANT HILL, Calif. (KTVU) - One firefighter has been hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries while battling what is as of 6:30 p.m. Sunday a three-alarm fire that has destroyed two houses in western Pleasant Hill, the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District said.

The fire was first reported shortly after 5 p.m. Sunday on Old Rodgers Ranch Court in Pleasant Hill, about a block south of the Rodgers Ranch Heritage Center historical site.

Fire Capt. Tracie Dutter said that both houses have since collapsed, but that flames have not spread to other houses on the block.

PG&E crews were on the scene to turn off natural gas lines, and Dutter said those lines had to be shut off before firefighters could fully fight the blaze.

Dutter did not disclose the nature of the firefighter's injury.

Crews continue to fight the fire, and its cause remains unknown Sunday night.
