Food delivery man accused of rant against San Francisco woman

SAN FRANCISCO (KTVU) - A man delivering online food orders in San Francisco is accused of going on a racist rant, during one of his deliveries.

Authorities say they are now investigating this case to see if potential hate crime charges should be filed against 31-year-old Nathan Cole of Daly City.

Neighbors recorded the incident, in which Cole is accused of yelling profanities and racial slurs at Sophia Shih on Wednesday, in front of her home in San Francisco's Sunset neighborhood.

Shih tells KTVU she saw a white sedan parked illegally in her driveway. 

When the driver returned, Shih says she asked him not to park there. 

Shih says that's when the driver started screaming at her.

She called 911, and took a photo of the man, who was a food delivery driver for online service, Caviar.

Shih accused Cole of threatening her, "scary, very scary," she said.

San Francisco Police said when officers arrived on scene, an officer had to pepper spray Cole, because he did not comply with orders.

Cole then drove off, but police were able to locate and arrest him.

He faces charges of resisting arrest and disobeying a police officer. 

The Caviar delivery compay, wrote in an email that it does not tolerate any racism, discrimination or harrassment. "We take these types of allegations extremely seriously and have disabled the courier's account.." 

Shih says she immigrated from Taiwan 30-years ago, and is a naturalized U.S. citizen. But she worries that this country is not safe anymore.

Investigators have asked her to collect her neighbors' cell phone and surveillance videos of the incident. Police are looking at possible hate crime charges against Cole for the language he used.
