Stanford rape victim tells why she wants to remain anonymous: 'For now, I am every woman'

The victim in the highly publicized Stanford rape case is addressing why she wants to remain anonymous.

KTVU Fox 2 anchor Frank Somerville received a quote from the woman through the prosecutor in the case.

Her statement says:

"I remain anonymous, yes to protect my identity.
But it is also a statement, that all of these people are fighting for someone they don't know.
That's the beauty of it. I don't need labels, categories, to prove I am worthy of respect, to prove that I should be listened to.
I am coming out to you as simply a woman wanting to be heard.
Yes there is plenty more I'd like to tell you about me.
For now, I am every woman."

20-year-old Brock Turner was convicted in the attack and last week was sentenced to six months in jail and three years' probation.

The case has sparked national outrage from critics who say the sentence is too lenient.

And an effort is now under way to recall the judge in case, Santa Clara County Superior Court judge, Aaron Persky.
