Man bludgeoned to death Sunday afternoon near Oakland Fox Theater

A 42-year-old homeless man was killed Sunday afternoon in downtown Oakland by a restaurant employee wielding a baseball bat, according to the East Bay Times.

The homicide occurred at 4:18 p.m. in the 1900 block of Telegraph Avenue near the Fox Theater.

The male victim was attacked with a blunt object and taken to a hospital where he died, police said. The East Bay Times reported the weapon was a baseball bat.

The East Bay Times reported that the suspect, Juan Espino, 29, of Oakland, was booked on suspicion of murder and is being held without bail and that he was a bartender at Flora, a nearby popular restaurant.
