One dead in Martinez structure fire Saturday morning
MARTINEZ, Calif. (KTVU) - Firefighters responded to a structure fire in Martinez Saturday morning that left one woman dead, officials said.
Crews were dispatched around 7:15 a.m. and discovered a significant fire burning in the third floor of a 12-unit apartment building. A victim was located and firefighters attempted to necessitate, but they were unsuccessful.
The cause of the death is unknown, officials said.
The fire was controlled within 20 minutes and it is not considered suspicious. Four units were damaged or destroyed but a portion of the building is still safe to live in. At least eight residents are without a home.
One firefighter was transported to a local hospital for a medical emergency, though it has not been reported whether or not the incident is related to the fire. Officials said he will be fine.
