Pot-bellied pig in Burlingame is looking for a home
BURLINGAME, Calif. (BCN) - Lola the pot-bellied pig is looking for a home after the Peninsula Humane Society and Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in Burlingame rescued her from porcine peril, shelter officials said.
An owner who purchased Lola at a Modesto flea market surrendered her to the shelter March 17, according to Buffy Martin Tarbox, spokeswoman for the humane society.
The piglet was infested with mites when she was surrendered, Tarbox said.
"She came to us with a case of mange, which was treated with medication," Tarbox said. "Lola is now fully recovered and her hair is even starting to grow back."
Mange is caused by mites that burrow into animals' skin, causing itching and irritation.
Potential adopters should note that while Lola is a baby weighing a mere 15 pounds, when she grows up, she could reach 100 pounds or more, according to Tarbox.
