Eight people were transported to the hospital after the driver of a pickup truck drove off of U.S. Highway 101, crashed through a chain-link fence and struck several vehicles in the parking lot of an In-N-Out restaurant in unincorporated Marin County this afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash happened around 2:25 p.m. at the restaurant at 798 Redwood Highway in the Strawberry Village Shopping Center, according to the CHP.

The driver who was headed north on 101, was said to have had a medical episode. Seven vehicles were involved in the crash.

A woman who is four and a half months pregnant is among those injured. She was said to have suffered moderate injuries, according to officials. Witnesses say she was lying on the ground after the crash, but was conscious. She told witnesses she was 18 weeks pregnant and was feeling tingling in her toes.

Jeff Brant, a Canadian tourist, told KTVU he and his family just touched down in San Francisco this afternoon. He said they finished up with the tour of the Golden Gate Bridge and drove to In N Out to grab food. While outside their rental, he says he heard tires screeching and saw the suitcase his mother-in-law was holding, fly into the air after the truck came plowing through.

His wife was also injured and transported to the hospital with a knee injury.

Aside from the two women outside of the rental, there were no other pedestrians injured. Everyone else injured, were all inside their vehicles.

They also say the driver of the pickup truck was conscious after the crash complaining of chest pain. His wife was sleeping in the passenger seat of the car but was uninjured.

CHP officials said the crash involved a green GMC Sierra and at least one ambulance responded.

Drivers are being told to expect delays in the area and on northbound Highway 101.
