People living and working in sparsely populated parts of San Mateo County should have an easier time voting in Tuesday's election with new roving voting services, election officials said.

Two San Mateo County voter locations have been designated for Election Day only, according to election officials. One is in the La Honda-Pescadero Unified School District Office at 360 Butano Cutoff in Pescadero, and will be open 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The other voter location is at the La Honda Fire Brigade station at 8945 La Honda Road in La Honda, and will be open from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The roving voting services are a pilot project to see if they will encourage people in lower population areas to vote, an election official said.

"In an effort to provide additional in-person voting sites for those areas distant from existing Vote Centers, we will be implementing Roving Voting as a pilot project to test the effectiveness of this service," Chief Elections Officer Mark Church said in a statement.

Two accessible voting machines are planned to be available at each site for people who speak English, Spanish and Chinese.
