Steph Curry surprises Oakland high school basketball team, donates new gear
OAKLAND, Calif. (KTVU) - An Oakland high school basketball team got the surprise of a lifetime when a Golden State Warriors superstar showed up to practice.
The McClymonds High School varsity basketball team was practicing over the weekend when Steph Curry walked in.
"It was unexpected", said senior Garyon'tae Smith, "I was like, 'Oh, snap. Curry's in here?"
Curry spent time to talk with the team, shoot some hoops, and even give out some gear.
"Hear a little about your team and your story and all that's going on here at the school here, as well," Curry said, "So, we wanted to do a little something extra and give you guys some new jerseys for the season."
The Oakland Unified School District says the McClymonds Warriors only have old and mismatched uniforms this year due to "some issues last season".
Now, they have new Under Armour uniforms, warm-up suits, and Curry's signature Under Armour basketball shoes.
The student athletes say they were grateful for the donations.
Smith said, "It just feels like we're more of a team. Representing Mack well now. We have to work harder now to show we deserve it".
