Remembering the victims of the Florida school shooting
PARKLAND, Fla. (FOX NEWS and KTVU) - We're learning more about the victims in the deadly school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School where 17 people lost their lives. Read more about the shooting investigation here.
Alyssa Alhadeff
Alyssa Alhadeff, 14,a freshman at Stoneman Doughlas High, died in the shooting. Her mother confirmed her daughter's death to WSVN. Her soccer team posted, "To Alyssa’s Friends honor Alyssa by doing something fabulous in your life. Don’t ever give up and inspire for greatness. Live for Alyssa! Be her voice and breathe for her. Alyssa loved you all forever!"
Scott Beigel
Scott Beigel was a geography teacher at the school. One of his students told WPLG-TV Beigel was killed in the shooting as he protected students from the gunman. Student Kelsey Friend told Good Morning America her teacher unlocked his door so that he could let students inside his classroom and shelter.
Martin Duque Anguiano
Martin Duque Anguiano, 14, died in the shooting. His brother posted on Instagram, "Words can not describe my pain. I love brother Martin you’ll be missed buddy. I know you’re in a better place. Duques forever man I love you junior!!! R.I.P Martin Duque!"
Nicholas Dworet
High school senior Nicholas Dworet, 17, recently earned himself a scholarship to join the University of Indianapolis swim team in the fall, according to the Indianapolis Star. On January 23rd TS Aquatics had posted a congratulations message to Dworet on its Facebook page congratulating him on his verbal commitment to U of Indy. There was a post to the same page following the news of Dworet's death. "It's with a heavy heart that I/We have to announce that our family member, teammate, TS Aquatics swimmer Nick Dworet has passed away. He was an amazing person as well as a great swimmer. A happy young man who embodied the values of our program. A young man who had changed his life recently and was on a major up swing in his life.Nick you have touched everyone on TS Aquatics in one way or another, whether it was your smile , your jokes or your very positive attitude."
Aaron Feis
Aaron Feis, 37, an assistant football coach at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, was killed in the shooting. The school's football team tweeted, "He selflessly shielded students from the shooter when he was shot. He died a hero and he will forever be in our hearts and memories."
Jaime Guttenberg
Jaime Gutternberg's father posted about losing his daughter in the shooting. His son survived. Fred Guttenberg wrote, My heart is broken. Yesterday, Jennifer Bloom Guttenberg and I lost our baby girl to a violent shooting at her school. We lost our daughter and my son Jesse Guttenberg lost his sister. I am broken as I write this trying to figure out how my family get's through this. We appreciate all the calls and messages and we apologize for not reacting to everyone individually... hugs to all and hold your children tight."
Chris Hixon
According to the Sun Sentinel, Chris Hixon, 49, was among those shot. He was an athletic director at the school.
Luke Hoyer
Luke Hoyer's grandparents told the Greenville News the 15-year-old boy had died in the shooting. His cousin Grant Cox posted on Facebook in part, "Tears will never show you how much I loved Luke. He had a whole life ahead of him and now I live through him. I love you so much buddy! I love you Aunt Gena, Uncle Tom, Abby and Jake as well. Choose love. Hate is never and will never be the answer. Tell the people around you that you love them and care about them and hug them tightly!"
Cara Loughran
According to the Broward County Sheriff, 14-year-old Cara Loughran died in the shooting.
Gina Montalto
Gina Montalto was a freshman. She was 14 years old and was on the winter guard team. “My heart is broken into pieces. I will forever remember you my sweet angel,” Manuel Miranda, one of her former color guard instructors, told the Miami Herald. “She was the sweetest soul ever. She was kind, caring always smiling and wanting to help.”
Joaquin Oliver
Joaquin Oliver was killed in the shooting. He was born in Venezuela and moved to the U.S. when he was a toddler. He became a citizen in January 2017, according to the Miami Herald.
Alaina Petty
Fourteen year old Alaina Petty was killed in the shooting, according to her great-aunt Claudette McMahon Joshi confirmed in a Facebook post.
Meadow Pollack
Eighteen year old Meadow Pollack was killed in her shooting, according to her father who spoke with the Palm Beach Post. “She was a beautiful, warm, loving and intelligent soul whose sense of humor and loyalty to friends made her beloved by all who knew her," according to a GoFundMe account.
Helena Ramsay
According to the Broward County Sheriff, Helena Ramsay, 17, died in the shooting.
Carmen Schentrup
According to the Broward County Sheriff, 16-year-old Carmen Schentrup died in the shooting.
Alex Schachter
Alex Schachter was identified by authorities as a victim of the shooting. He was 14 years old.
Peter Wang
According to the Broward County Sheriff, 15-year-old Peter Wang was killed in the shooting.
