Warriors to give 'Red Panda Acrobat' a new unicycle after hers was stolen
OAKLAND, Calif. - Nearly eight months after the team promised to buy her a new unicycle, the Golden State Warriors on Monday night will hand Rong Niu, better known as the Red Panda, a new one.
In a statement, the Warriors said CEO and President Rick Welts will give Niu her custom-made unicycle before the halftime act at the Oracle Arena. The Warriors are playing the Phoenix Suns.
In January, KTVU first reported that someone took off with the beloved acrobat's 7-foot unicycle valued at about $30,000 from the San Francisco Airport. The airport released surveillance video of the suspect, who has never been caught.
Her agent, Pat Figley, told KTVU at the time that she was heartbroken. The unicycle was built for her frame and riding a backup, while balancing plates on her head, has never been the same.
