A plane crashed in unincorporated Contra Costa County Tuesday afternoon, killing the lone person on board, a Federal Aviation Administration spokesman said.

The Contra Costa County Fire Protection District said someone reported the crash around 12:30 p.m. near Kirker Pass Road in the area of Nortonville Road near Pittsburg.

Fire crews responded and confirmed the crash of a single-engine plane with one fatality, Aubert said.

FAA spokesman Ian Gregor said the crash occurred about 6 miles east of Buchanan Field Airport in Concord and that the plane was a Beechcraft Bonanza that was destroyed in a post-crash fire.

Authorities said the plane clipped and frayed high-voltage power lines before it crashed. A spokeswoman for PG&E said crews were cooperating in the investigation and there were no power outages. PG&E offered their condolences to the pilot’s family.

The pilot was the only person aboard the plane and FAA officials have not yet confirmed a registration number for the aircraft, Gregor said.

The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the plane crash, according to Gregor.
