SKAGGS ISLAND, Calif. (KTVU) - Authorities responded to a hot air balloon crash on Skaggs Island near Highway 37, according to Vallejo fire officials.
Ten people were aboard when it crashed around 9:54 a.m. According to the balloon pilot, the event was an "emergency landing" determined necessary because of high winds pushing the balloon towards powerlines, per a tweet from Vallejo Firefighets Association.
Because of the marshy geography, fire crews were unable to get to the passengers, so a CHP helicopter is bringing them to safety in groups.
The call came in from a resident of Vallejo whose yard looks towards Highway 37. He reportedly witnessed the aircraft go down.
Only one passenger sustained a minor injury officals said. No further information was immediately available.
