A 1-year-old boy was fatally struck by a vehicle in Richmond on Sunday, and the driver was arrested shortly after, police said.

Lt.Matt Stonebraker said the accident was reported about 11:50 a.m. at Cutting Boulevard and S. 17th Street.

When they arrived, officers found that the boy had been hit by a car traveling east on Cutting Boulevard, Stonebraker said. He was taken to the hospital, but died later of his injuries, Stonebraker said.

The adult female driver fled the scene, police said, but was subsequently arrested by officers a few miles

away. At this point, Stonebraker said police are not identifying her.

Stonebraker also did not have information about the boy and whether he had been alone or not at the intersection.
