DIXON, Calif. (BCN) - A man and a woman died early this morning after the truck they were in rolled over and crashed along Interstate Highway 80 in Dixon, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash was first reported around 2:25 a.m. on the transition ramp from eastbound Highway 80 to northbound state Highway 113.
After a preliminary investigation, officers learned that four people had been inside a 2003 Toyota Tundra.
The Toyota was traveling in the highway's eastbound lanes, at about 65 mph, when the truck somehow drifted onto the highway's shoulder.
The driver then tried to turn the truck left, at which point the truck overturned multiple times, before coming to rest on the connector ramp, CHP officials said.
A 71-year-old Elk Grove man and a 69-year-old Sacramento woman were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the CHP.
A 62-year-old woman Elk Grove woman sustained minor injuries, while a 51-year-old Elk Grove woman suffered major injuries. Both women were taken to Kaiser Permanente Vacaville Medical Center.
All four occupants were wearing seatbelts, CHP officials said. Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the crash.
