2 suspects charged in $290K San Francisco Dior store heist
SAN FRANCISCO - Two suspects face multiple felony charges in connection with a $290,000 heist at a Dior store in San Francisco's Union Square.
Denayaha Duree, 23, and Xavier Garcia, 20, were charged with second-degree commercial burglary, grand theft, and organized retail theft, all felonies, for their alleged role in a takeover at the luxury store on Post Street on Oct. 11.
Duree and Garcia were both out on bail when the alleged crimes were committed, said prosecutors.
"My office takes these cases seriously and will do everything we can to ensure there are consequences and accountability," said District Attorney Brooke Jenkins. "To those who think it is OK to come to San Francisco and brazenly ram into a business in the middle of the night and ransack it, you are mistaken. You will be identified, arrested, and prosecuted."
According to court records, multiple vehicles arrived at the Dior store at 185 Post St., and one of the cars backed into the metal gate enclosing the entrance.
Once the gate was knocked down, at least 10 suspects entered the store, ransacking it and stealing items.
The suspects were all masked, and some wore gloves.
Prosecutors said that in less than a minute, the group stole 66 handbags valued at over $290,000 and caused about $250,000 in damage.
Authorities have not provided additional information on the other suspects.
Duree and Garcia were arraigned on Wednesday and pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Their next court date is Dec. 24.
