ANOTHER SUIT FILED IN FATAL SAN JOSE POLICE SHOOTINGS: The mother and daughter of a homicide suspect who was fatally shot by police last year has filed a federal wrongful death lawsuit against the city, court documents show.
The complaint by Roseanna Ceballos-Archie over the police shooting of Matthew Castillo follows a similar suit filed earlier this month over the killing of Richard Jacquez, a second suspect in the original homicide.
Castillo and Jacquez were suspects in the August slaying of Christopher Wrenn, 38, at a San Jose business park.
The latest lawsuit seeks unspecified damages from the city.
Wrenn, 38, was shot and killed on Aug. 13, 2015 while at a South Bay office park. Investigators have said Jacquez and two other men, Matthew Castillo, 29, and Duane Aguero, 42, broke into an office building on Lundy Avenue and tortured Wrenn before he was fatally shot.
Police shot and killed Jacquez five days after Wrenn's slaying.
According to reports at the time, police officers chased Jacquez after receiving word that he was planning on killing a woman who had information about Wrenn's slaying. Police have said Jacquez was not armed, which is also mentioned in the federal lawsuit filed by his daughter.
Castillo was fatally shot by police while at a strip mall in East San Jose. Police said at the time that he reached for a handgun in his waistband.
Aguero was arrested and booked into the Santa Clara County Jail.
