3.0 magnitude earthquake strikes off coast of Northern California

An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 3.0 struck west of Eureka at 9:50 p.m., the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The quake hit about 38 miles offshore and was measured at a depth of 0.1 kilometer.

No injuries were immediately reported.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, people typically report feeling earthquakes larger than about magnitude 2.5.
