SAN JOSE, Calif. (KTVU) - In San Jose, three homicides in four days has left investigators busy. Police said none of the murders appear to be connected. Detectives need help solving two of them.
Childhood friends of 24-year-old Carlos Ojeda light candles in his memory, where he was gunned down found lying on this street near Quimby Road Monday night. Ojeda leaves behind a 6-year-old daughter.
"He was always a good person," said Ojeda's friend Evelyn Nolasco "He was always a good person. When I found out, it was a shock. He didn't deserve that."
Two days prior on Saturday night, 18-year-old Cruz Castro was walking with friends near Lyndale and Story Road, when a group of men got out of a car and shot Castro. His friends said he's from Tracy and was studying at the San Jose Job Corps Center to become an electrician.
"Just to know someone that was amongst you just to disappear one day, it's pretty bad," said Melvin Joseph, Castro's classmate.
"Both cases illustrate how you think you are okay walking in a neighborhood minding your own business and you don't know what's going to happen next," said Sgt. Enrique Garcia of San Jose Police.
Ojeda and Castro are victims in the City of San Jose's latest unsolved crimes in what's been a deadly week. On Wednesday night, 43-year-old Jason McKenna stabbed his 68-year-old father Ronald to death at a mobile home park south of downtown.
"We are concerned about what's happening in the last week or so," said Sgt. Garcia.
Police don't know what to make of the uptick in violence. They are stepping up enforcement in hot spots, as questions remain unanswered in the two shootings loved ones call senseless.
"You wouldn't want that to happen to anyone," said Nolasco. "He leaves his daughter behind, he leaves his mom and his family and friends. It's not right."
"We have killers out and about they are amongst us and we need to take them off the streets," said Sgt. Garcia.
Last year, the City of San Jose had 30 homicides. Right now, the city is dealing with its 14th homicide and it's April. Anyone with information on these cases is asked to contact San Jose Police at (408) 947-STOP (7867),
Family and friends have set up Go Fund Me pages for the two victims.
