510 area code running out of numbers, new area code to be introduced
ALAMEDA COUNTY, Calif. - The California Public Utilities Commission has announced that the 510 area code is expected to use up all of its available prefixes by June 2019.

The CPUC plans to introduce the new are a code by December 2018.
The area served by the 510 area code includes the western portions of Alameda and Contra Costa Counties. The 510 area code serves the cities of Alameda, Albany, Berkeley, Emeryville, Fremont, Hayward, Newark, Oakland, Piedmont, San Leandro and Union City in Alameda County; and the cities of El Cerrito, Hercules, Pinole, Richmond, and San Pablo in Contra Costa County.
The proposal is pending CPUC approval. Public hearings will be held at the beginning of 2017. Click here for details.
