Decomposed body found in Union City home
The decomposed body of a 70-year-old man was found on the toilet in the bathroom of a Union City home.
UNION CITY, Calif. - A 70-year-old man's body was found on the toilet of a home in Union City, and authorities said his death was not suspicious.
Officers discovered Darryl Emerson's body on Aug. 17 at a residence at 385 Appian Way during a welfare check on his 95-year-old mother, a cousin said.
Relatives had been attempting to contact the elderly woman, and when they couldn't reach her, they feared the worst. This led them to ask for a welfare check from the police, who then found Emerson's body.
In a statement on Thursday evening, the Union City Police Department said,"Upon entering the home, officers discovered a deceased individual in an advanced state of decomposition on a toilet inside a bathroom of the residence."
It was later revealed that Emerson's mother had been placed in a nursing home within the past year, and not all relatives were aware of this.
15-year-old dies in San Pablo fire that also killed cousin
A 15-year-old boy has died from the injuries that he sustained in an apartment fire in San Pablo that also claimed the life of his 22-year-old cousin.
Police said Emerson's body might have been there for weeks, long enough for it to have become hardened.
Authorities determined the victim died of natural causes and said there were no signs of criminal activity or suspicious circumstances related to his death.
