Val Kilmer dies at age 65
His daughter, Mercedes Kilmer, confirmed to the New York Times, the first outlet to report the news, that her father succumbed to pneumonia. Kilmer had been battling health issues since a throat tumor was discovered in 2014, leading to an emergency visit to UCLA Medical Center in 2015 due to significant throat bleeding. The tumor was attributed to oral cancer.
Val Kilmer's cancer eventually went into remission, which he credited to his strong Christian Science beliefs. He reportedly declined numerous conventional medical treatments. In a 2017 interview with The Christian Post, Kilmer said, "Throughout history, countless individuals have found healing through prayer, while many have passed away despite relying on contemporary medicine."
Kilmer is survived by his two adult children, Mercedes and Jack, whom he shared with his former wife, actress Joanne Whalley.
