PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Last Christmas, then 4-year old Jillian Massey was battling brain cancer and wanted to donate 100 toys to fellow patients at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. The Sassy Massey Toy Drive was created, and Jillian brought the toys and her smile to all the kids in her hospital wing.
This year, those 100 toys have grown into more than 10,000 toys for children across the region. Sadly, Jillian won’t see those smiles this year. Recently, she lost her fight with cancer.
But the heartbreaking news couldn’t derail her cause. The Sassy Massey website and coordination with Amazon has helped generate donations from all over the world. In fact, there are so many toys it takes a team of volunteers to sort through them all.
"It's amazing to see what's happened, the last few weeks," family friend Dan Emmerson told FOX 29. “Looking at these boxes now, I feel like it's Jillian smiling back on every one of the boxes."
