American serviceman killed in Iraq

An American serviceman was killed by Isis fighters in northern Iraq early Tuesday morning.

In a public statement, U.S. Central Command reported that he died from "enemy fire."

U.S. Defense Secretary Ash Carter described the incident, as "a combat death" near the city of Irbil.

The Navy Times reports the serviceman was a Navy SEAL and special warfare operator who was killed, while performing his duty as an advisor to Kurdish Peshmerga troops.

Isis fighters penetrated the Peshmerga's forward line, and that they killed the American a couple of miles behind the front line.
