WALNUT CREEK (KTVU) -- Trains resumed stopping at the Walnut Creek BART station Wednesday evening after a man who had threatened to jump from an elevated platform prompted officials to close the station for several hours.
BART officials said riders should expect residual delays as trains struggled to accommodate the back-up of passengers who were unable to catch trains at the Walnut Creek station.
The BART media line said authorities were called to the station around 1:30 p.m. over reports of an unstable and unruly man who was threatening to harm himself. Authorities said the man was threatening to jump to the street from the elevated platform.
Aerial pictures from the station showed the man hanging onto the side of the building as police looked on from the ground.
The transit agency listed an advisory on its website shortly after 2 p.m. and advised passengers that parallel bus service was available via Contra Costa County Transit. The agency said the station was closed as of 2:45 p.m.
A throng of people gathered at the Lafayette BART station while police attempted to resolve the situation.
Officials urged BART riders to consider using the Contra Costa bus 25, 15 and 9 buses while the incident unfolded.
