BART service returns to normal following system-wide shutdown

OAKLAND, Calif. (KTVU/BCN) - BART is resuming normal service system-wide after a computer glitch brought service to a halt earlier Saturday morning.

BART reported at 10:50 a.m. that normal service was being restored at all stations. It had restored limited service shortly after 9 a.m.

The service problem originated at 2:45 a.m. with a computer network failure, BART spokeswoman Cheryl Stalter said. It was not related to crews working overnight on BART's uninterruptible power supply in Oakland, as was originally believed, she said.

BART will conduct a forensic evaluation to determine what caused the network failure, Stalter said. It is expected to take several days.

BART is single-tracking trains Saturday as planned between Richmond and El Cerrito del Norte stations to accommodate station work in Richmond.
