BAY POINT, Calif. - A Bay Point neighborhood was placed on lockdown for hours Saturday morning, as police responded to a shooting and an armed, barricaded suspect.
The Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office sent out an alert telling people near Chadwick and Lancaster Lanes, and Lancaster Circle to go inside and lock all windows and doors.
An all-clear was issued by police around 10:30 a.m.
Nichole Vera, a resident at the Westwood Village complex, told KTVU she heard at least four gunshots around 1 a.m. She said right before those gunshots, she heard her downstairs neighbor arguing with another woman.
"She was quiet, she didn’t talk to anyone really. She never bothered anybody, never anything like this. No noise or arguing, but it was pretty bad last night," said Vera.
Lt. Jon Kirkham with the Contra Costa Sheriff's Department confirmed a victim was taken to the hospital with multiple gunshot wounds. He didn't provide an update on her condition.
He said a suspect was taken into custody without use of force.
"I heard her sobbing down there, yelling out the girlfriend’s name that she had maybe possibly shot or whatever. I could hear her sobbing for about 15-20 minutes," said Vera.
Vera and other residents gathered at a nearby community center while police worked to arrest the suspect. Residents were not able to get back into their homes for hours, some standing in robes and slippers out in the cold.
