Vandals target Oakland mayor’s home

OAKLAND, Calif. (KTVU) - Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf's home was vandalized overnight.
The culprit or culprits spray painted numerous messages on her property on Oakmore Road in the Oakmore neighborhood around 2 a.m.
A spokesperson for the mayor, Justin Berton, said the suspects also shot projectiles at Schaaf's home and set off fireworks.
Messages including "Blood on your hands," "Wake up Libby," "Defund OPD," and "Cancel Rent" were visible on the garage door, driveway, retaining wall, and walkway to Schaaf's home.
"This attack, designed to intimidate the Mayor and strike fear into her family, will not stop her from advocating for the policies she believes are in the best long-term interests of her beloved hometown," Berton said. "Like all Oaklanders, she supports passionate protest but does not support tactics meant to harm and terrorize others.”
Police officers were seen outside of Schaaf's home Tuesday morning.
Authorities have not yet determined who is behind the vandlism, but an anonymous group has claimed responsibility and outlined the reasons why protesters targeted the mayor. In a posting online, the group referred to other politicians and said, “This is just the beginning.”
