Antioch police say suspect's mother and half brother's decomposing bodies were found together in bedroom

Antioch police arrested a man after finding the decomposing bodies of his mother and half-brother in their home Wednesday evening. Crime scene investigators say it appears the corpses might have been there since early to mid-August. Neighbors tell KTVU they noticed a bad odor back on September 2nd, and reported it to the property managers.

Antioch police officers say they arrested a 46-year-old man and booked him into the Contra Costa County Detention Facility in Martinez on charges of murder, after discovering the decomposing bodies of his 65-year-old mother and his 39-year-old half-brother inside their home at 2600 Fairmont on Wednesday evening.

Investigators say it appears the bodies might have been in the house since early to mid-August. Neighbors say they had noticed a bad smell back on September 2nd and notified the property managers.

"The odor was so bad, and then we thought there was a dead rodent or something happened inside my unit," said one neighbor who did not want to be identified by name, "It's been a month already that we still smell it, so we thought it was going to be a big dead animal. "

Officers plan to meet with the Contra Costa County District Attorney's office to discuss charges against Mark Taylor on Friday afternoon.

Police say the property manager asked them to do a welfare check, and they arrived around 4:10 p.m. Wednesday, detaining Taylor, who was trying to leave the home.

"When I pulled up, there was tape on the apartments, police cars everywhere, so I figured something was going on," Mikala Thomas, a nearby resident said. "It was about 3-4 police cars deep."

Police told KTVU that records show police being called to that address back in January, due to a fight between the suspect and his half-brother.

Bodies of Antioch mother, son found in 'advanced stages of decomposition:' police

A man was arrested after the bodies of his mother and half-brother were found at an Antioch home on Wednesday in "advanced stages of decomposition," police said.

One neighbor told KTVU that the woman had lost her husband some 20 years ago and had lived there with her two sons. That neighbor says the mother had been friendly and would bring over holiday cookies and soup, but hadn't been seen for months.

"She used to park her car here. She was cool, never seemed to be bothered about anybody," said another neighbor who did not want to be identified.
