Arizona man shot by Border Patrol
Multiple agencies are investigating a shooting that involved Border patrol agents in the community of Arivaca, which is located south of Tucson.
ARIVACA, Ariz. - Officials with the Pima County Sheriff's Department say they are helping with a use-of-force investigation that involves federal law enforcement, as a result of a shooting that happened on Jan. 27.
What we know:
The incident, according to the Associated Press, began at around 7:00 a.m. near the community of Arivaca.
Per PCSD's statement, Border patrol agents tried to stop a car that was believed to be involved in human smuggling, but the car failed to yield, which kicked off a pursuit.
"The driver later fled the vehicle, and agents initiated a foot pursuit," read a portion of PCSD's statement. "During the encounter, the subject fired at Border Patrol agents. Agents returned fire, striking the subject."

The subject, as mentioned by PCSD, has been identified as 34-year-old Patrick Gary Schlegel of Sahuarita, a community located to the south of Tucson.
"Mr. Schlegel was transported to a local hospital, where he remains in serious condition," PCSD wrote. "The U.S. Marshals Service confirmed Mr. Schlegel was wanted in connection with a human smuggling investigation."
PCSD says they were notified shortly after the incident, while also stating it is standard protocol for the agency to investigate use-of-force incidents that happened within Pima County.
