Burglars use sledgehammers, crowbars to break into Oakland gas stations

Burglars broke into two gas stations minutes apart at the same corner in North Oakland.

The burglaries occurred early Monday morning at 55th and MLK Way, according to surveillance video showing the suspects using sledgehammers and crowbars to break into the first gas station, called 24-7.

Then, they went across the street to another gas station called Grand, and did the same thing, video shows.

Arash Salkhi owns both gas stations and he told KTVU on Wednesday that he has sent letters to the mayor's office and the police department, but nothing has happened.

"And there's absolutely no help, no support.," he said. "I know that we have a new mayor, a new DA. And new rhetoric that change is coming. I haven't seen any change. I can't even get anyone to come. Yeah, they'll come in and do a police report. What is that going to do for me? I mean give me a piece of paper, so I can file with my insurance."

Salkhi owns two other gas stations in Oakland, and one of them was also burglarized several weeks ago.
