Burglary suspect dies while in custody at Milpitas jail
MILPITAS, Calif. - Santa Clara County officials reported the death of an inmate that occurred earlier in the week.
A 30-year-old man, whose identity was not shared, was found unresponsive in his cell at the Elmwood Correctional Facility in Milpitas Tuesday around 9:10 p.m.
Fifteen minutes later the Milpitas Fire Department and Medical Services arrived and transported the man to a local hospital where he later died, about an hour later from when he was first found unresponsive, officials said.
The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office said their preliminary findings show no signs of foul play.
The man was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on Nov. 2 by the San Jose Police Department for burglary. He also allegedly had multiple outstanding warrants from other counties.
The county's sheriff's office, medical examiner and coroner's office and district attorney's office are investigating the in-custody death, officials said.
