Burned Chihuahua settles into new life

ALAMEDA, Calif. (KTVU) – KTVU has followed the health journey of a Chihuahua who was tortured, burned and then dropped off at an animal shelter.

Fireman, re-named Buddy, was just a few weeks old when he was left at the Antioch animal shelter with what appeared to be chemical burns to his ears and stomach.

Buddy had to have his ears amputated, and was nursed back to health by volunteers with Umbrella of Hope.

He then found a forever home with another burn survivor, 12-year-old Chloe Levensen-Cupp of Alameda.

KTVU recently checked in with Chloe’s family who says Buddy is loving his new home.

He has gained weight and has fewer triggers according to the veterinary behaviorists.

He’s also getting along well with the family’s other dog, ‘Bella,’ who appears to be giving him "puppy/dog" socialization instruction. He follows Bella around constantly and they play constantly.

Chloe’s parents say their daughter and Buddy are closely bonded. He won’t let her watch TV alone and always snuggles with her whenever he can.
