Car fire reported in Caldecott Tunnel

A reported car fire stalled traffic in the Caldecott Tunnel on Tuesday evening.

ORINDA, Calif. - A vehicle fire in the Caldecott Tunnel impacted traffic during the evening commute on Tuesday.

The California Highway Patrol issued a severe traffic alert around 4:45 p.m. after a vehicle caught fire on eastbound Highway 24 at the Caldecott Tunnel in Orinda.

The left bore of the tunnel was temporarily blocked.

Motorists were advised to expect delays and use alternate routes to avoid the area.
