Car rear-ends into Moraga-Orinda fire engine
ORINDA, Calif. - A Moraga-Orinda fire engine was involved in an accident when a minivan crashed into it Friday afternoon, officials said.
The crash occurred when the Moraga-Orinda Fire District (MOFD) Engine 43 responded to westbound Highway 24 near the Caldecott Tunnel with the Oakland Fire Department about an accident.
The MOFD fire engine was protecting the scene and was parked when a van crashed into the engine's rear.
Two passengers were inside the van and were taken to local hospitals to be evaluated. Two MOFD firefighters were also taken to a local hospital for evaluation.
"This incident underscores the importance of always being aware of your surroundings while driving and slowing for emergency vehicles," the MOFD said in a statement.
Officials didn't provide any additional information about the previous accident that prompted their response.
