Oakland sees 6 smash-and-grab robberies in 3 hours

Oakland police are investigating a series of smash-and-grab robberies that happened in the span of three hours early Thursday morning.

Several people were detained following a smash-and-grab burglary at a 7-Eleven in Oakland early Thursday morning, police said.

The Oakland Police Department did not confirm how many individuals were detained or whether any arrests were imminent.

Smash-and-grab at Oakland 7-Eleven

A smash-and-grab occurred at a 7-Eleven in Oakland on Thursday morning, according to visual evidence at the scene.

The burglary occurred around 4:30 a.m. at a 7-Eleven located at Grand Avenue and Mandana Boulevard, near the Grand Lake Theater.

Visual evidence from the scene showed an abandoned SUV without license plates backed into the storefront.

The store’s windows were shattered, and glass and merchandise were scattered across the floor. Inside, shelves were left in disarray.

A few miles away, around 7 a.m., a large police presence was reported at Grand Avenue and Mandela Parkway near the Emeryville border.

At least one person was seen in the back of a patrol car.

Suspected bank robber shot by police during chase from Concord to San Jose

Shots were fired during a police pursuit that stretched from Concord to San Jose on Monday, authorities said.

Oakland police did not immediately respond to requests for comment about whether the two scenes were connected.

The department said it is investigating a series of commercial burglaries and robberies that occurred early Thursday at multiple locations throughout Oakland.

Investigators believe the suspects used vehicles to break into several businesses, though they did not specify which establishments were targeted.
