A driver in a Chevy Tahoe died and most of westbound state Highway 24 at Broadway in Oakland was closed Wednesday morning when that driver was ejected from the car and was killed by a passing motorist, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Officer Herman Baza said the CHP was called out at 5:20 a.m. and when officers arrived, they learned that a silver Honda Civic rear-ended a blue Chevy Tahoe. The Tahoe ended up rolling upwards onto an embankment and the driver was ejected. Just at that moment, Baza said a Toyota Camry ran over the Tahoe driver killing him.

Baza said it appears as though speed was a factor in the crash. "It's always important for people to slow down a little more and be a little more patient," he said.

All lanes reopened about 7:30 a.m.
