A California Highway Patrol officer was injured early Friday morning after he was struck by a motorized cart.

The officer responded to a call where a driver had been towing the cart on Clayton Road near Miller Avenue in San Jose.

Police say there was a second person inside the cart. When the officer got out of his patrol car, the driver took off and the cart rolled down the street.

The cart struck the officer and the suspects fled in a pickup truck leaving the officer down and injured.

The officer was transported to a nearby hospital in stable condition.
