BELMONT, Calif. (BCN) - A California Highway Patrol officer shot a suspect who was allegedly armed with a knife and charging on U.S. Highway 101 in Belmont early Sunday morning, according to a CHP spokesman.
A pedestrian was reported on both sides of Highway 101 at Ralston Avenue a little after 2 a.m., according to Officer Art Montiel.
Arriving officers tried to take the suspect into custody but he allegedly resisted, prompting officers to use a Taser, which had no effect, Montiel said
The suspect produced a knife, held it overhead and charged at the officer, who opened fire.
The suspect suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to a hospital, according to Montiel.
Only one officer was involved in the shooting. No officers were injured.
