CoCo County coroner rules teen's death as accident in Crockett crash
CROCKETT, Calif. - A Contra Costa County coroner's jury ruled that a 15-year-old's death in 2023 was an accident, Sheriff-Coroner David O. Livingston announced Friday.
Giovanni Gomez of Vallejo was the driver of a vehicle that left the roadway near Cummings Skyway and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The Contra Costa Sheriff's Officers alerted the highway patrol at 1:24 a.m., Oct. 30, 2023, that its deputies were pursuing a stolen blue Kia Optima traveling east on Interstate Highway 80.
Man ejected from car, dies after fleeing Contra Costa County deputies
A man died Monday after leading Contra Costa County deputies on a brief chase, losing the deputies and then crashing in a ravine, the sheriff's office announced.
CHP units took over the pursuit as the vehicle exited at Cummings Skyway and continued at a high rate of speed.
At 1:27 a.m., the vehicle left the roadway and overturned in a field. Gomez was ejected and died at the scene. He was the only occupant of the stolen vehicle.
