Could it be the end? Great America scraps 2025 winter run
SANTA CLARA, Calif. - California's Great America season pass holders received disappointing news of an axed winter 2025 season.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the theme park emailed some season pass holders saying that the upcoming season will run from April 5 through late October and that the annual WinterFest, which includes the Snoopy Christmas ice show and other holiday festivities, will not be part of the 2025 calendar.
Great America is currently closed after concluding its WinterFest for the 2024 season on Jan. 5.
The park is slated to close permanently by 2033 at the latest, though an exact timeline for its official closure is unclear.
According to the park's online calendar, there are no dates when the theme park is open past October.
The backstory:
In 2022, Cedar Fair, which owned and operated the land that Great America occupies, sold the 122-acre property to San Francisco-based real estate company Prologis for $310 million.
As reported by SFGate, Cedar Fair has 11 years to wind down operations and shut down the park. The theme park has been in operation since 1976.
What they're saying:
The theme park has not yet responded to KTVU's request for comment.
