Crossing Golden Gate Bridge now more expensive

The famous International Orange color was originally used as a sealant for the bridge.] The US Navy had wanted it to be painted with black and yellow stripes to ensure visibility by passing ships.

Drivers will pay an additional $.25 to cross the Golden Gate Bridge starting today, bridge district officials said.

The FasTrak fare is now $7. The Pay-by-Plate fare is $8 and the FasTrak carpool fare $5.

Multi-axle rates also went up, according to the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District.

Fares also went up today for rides on Alameda-Contra Costa Transit District, or AC Transit, buses. The cash fare for an adult single ride is now $2.35 while the local adult 31-day pass is $84.60, AC Transit officials said.

The adult day pass remains unchanged at $5.

Fares are also increasing today on the Golden Gate Ferry and on Golden Gate Transit regional buses. The Marin local bus fare and Giants Ferry fare will stay the same.
