EMERVYVILLE, Calif. (BCN) - Emeryville and Oakland police dispersed about 100 cars participating in a sideshow and about 500 people watching the show early Sunday morning in a parking lot in Emeryville, police said.
At 12:10 a.m., officers responded to the Target store at 1555 40th St. after someone reported the sideshow activity.
Police said gunshots were reported but officers learned the noise was fireworks.
Other reports indicated someone started a fire and people were throwing glass bottles at officers, according to police. The fire was extinguished.
Police later discovered that a vehicle they believe was involved in the sideshow crashed into a tree on Shellmound Street in front of an Ikea store.
All but one of the vehicle's occupants left the area. That remaining passenger declined medical care, police said. The vehicle was then towed.
Officers checked the city to see whether the sideshow participants went somewhere else and found that they did.
No one was arrested or injured and no one reported any property damage, police said.
