SAN LEANDRO (KTVU) -- Police are looking for the gunman who shot and killed a person on Interstate 880 in San Leandro early Saturday morning, authorities said.
The CHP was investigating a multi-vehicle crash on the freeway, at Marina Boulevard, said police.
At 2:10 a.m., officers were still at the scene, when they heard gunshots fired near their location, according to authorities.
The Highway Patrol officers spotted a car parked on the right hand shoulder of the northbound lanes.
Officers drove a few hundred yards to the car, and found a person suffering from a gunshot wound, said police.
Paramedics were called, but pronounced the person dead at the scene.
San Leandro Police Department's Criminal Investigation Division is handling the case, and is asking the public's help to find the shooter.
The northbound lanes of I-880 were closed to all traffic from 2 a.m. to 6:30 a.m., as a forensic team processed the crime scene.
