Dolores Park shooting leaves 19-year-old dead

Police are investigating a fatal shooting at San Francisco's Dolores Park. The victim was 19 years old.

A 19-year-old man was shot to death in San Francisco's Dolores Park, according to police and a city supervisor.

Police said they were called out to the park, at 20th and Dolores streets, around 10 p.m. Wednesday to investigate a shooting.

When they got there, they found a young man lying on the ground with gunshot wounds, police said.

Police and paramedics tried to save him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The victim was a 19-year-old man, according to Supervisor Rafael Mandelman, citing information he received from police. The park sits in Mandelman's district.

On Thursday, parkgoers took advantage of the good weather and enjoyed scenic views of the skyline from the park, which is popular among locals and tourists.

"It is also a park that periodically has some public safety challenges," Mandelman said.

"I don’t think people should overreact to this, but it's also important to be aware of your surroundings, pay attention to what’s going on," he said.
