WESTERLY, R.I. - What was supposed to be a relaxing day turned out to be something out of a movie for some Rhode Island beachgoers.
A huge swarm of dragonflies invaded a beach in Westerly, Rhode Island, on Saturday.
Helene Dombrowski filmed video showing the insects flying around Misquamicut State Beach, forcing some beachgoers to pack up and go back home.
Dombrowski believes there were "hundreds" on the beach when she arrived in the morning and "millions" around by the afternoon.
"Some people were screaming while others were trying to catch them," she told Storyful.
Local news outlets say dragonflies, and in particular the common green darner, are known to breed in July and August.
